Middle East Domestic Wastewater Treatment Project: 60 m³/day Containerized MBR System

By administrator on Aug-10-2026

Project Overview

As water scarcity and environmental protection continue to shape wastewater management across the Middle East, reliable domestic wastewater treatment is increasingly important for residential, commercial and decentralized sites.

For this project, Mejec supplied a JM Series Containerized Wastewater Treatment System for domestic wastewater treatment. The system has a treatment capacity of 60 m³/day and uses MBR (Membrane Bioreactor) technology to provide stable and high-quality effluent in a compact configuration.

Before Installation: The Need for Better Wastewater Management

Before the new treatment system was installed, the project site faced the common challenge of managing domestic wastewater in an area where centralized wastewater infrastructure was not readily available or sufficient for the site's needs.

Daily wastewater generated from residential and other on-site activities needed to be collected and managed locally. Without a dedicated treatment system, wastewater management could become more dependent on temporary or less efficient disposal methods, creating concerns about odor, site cleanliness and the potential impact on the surrounding environment.

The local climate also added another consideration. High temperatures and dry conditions can make the proper management of domestic wastewater particularly important, especially where wastewater is handled close to occupied or working areas.

At the same time, the project site had limited space for constructing a conventional wastewater treatment plant. A solution was therefore needed that could provide sufficient treatment capacity and high-quality effluent without requiring a large treatment footprint or extensive on-site civil works.

These conditions created a clear need for a compact, reliable and independently operated domestic wastewater treatment system.

The Solution: Mejec JM Containerized MBR System

Mejec provided a 60 m³/day JM Series Containerized MBR Wastewater Treatment System.

The system integrates the main treatment processes into a compact containerized structure. MBR technology combines biological treatment with membrane separation, allowing effective removal of organic matter and suspended solids while maintaining a relatively small footprint.

The prefabricated configuration also simplified transportation and on-site installation, reducing the need for extensive civil construction.

For this project, the containerized MBR approach provided a practical balance between treatment performance, space efficiency and installation convenience.

Installation: A More Streamlined On-Site Setup

After delivery to the project site, the containerized system was positioned and connected to the required wastewater inlet, treated-water outlet, power supply and auxiliary facilities.

Because the major treatment components were integrated into the prefabricated unit, the installation process was more straightforward than constructing a complete treatment structure from the ground up.

The compact layout also helped keep the treatment facilities organized within a defined area, making better use of the available site space.

After Installation: A Cleaner and More Controlled Environment

Following installation and commissioning, the project gained a dedicated wastewater treatment system capable of treating up to 60 m³ of domestic wastewater per day.

The system achieved the required effluent quality:

  • BOD₅ < 10 mg/L

  • SS < 10 mg/L

  • Chlorine < 1 mg/L

  • pH 7–8

The improvement was also visible at the site level.

Domestic wastewater could now be collected and treated through a dedicated and controlled process, reducing the potential environmental impact associated with poorly managed wastewater. The treatment facilities were also concentrated within a defined area, helping create a cleaner and more orderly site environment.

Instead of treating wastewater management as a temporary disposal issue, the project now had a structured treatment process designed for continuous operation.

Project Result

The Middle East project demonstrates how a 60 m³/day containerized MBR wastewater treatment system can provide a practical solution for decentralized domestic wastewater treatment.

By combining MBR technology with a compact prefabricated design, the Mejec JM system helped the project meet its wastewater treatment requirements while minimizing site construction and making efficient use of available space.

More importantly, the installation transformed wastewater management from a site challenge into a stable, measurable and controlled treatment process, supporting a cleaner and more sustainable operating environment.
