Frequently Asked Questions

How much land do we need to reserve for the treatment plant?

Far less than a built-in-place plant. Buried Johkasou units need only a small excavation pit and the surface above can be planted, paved or used for parking, so they consume no above-ground building allowance. A 20 m³/d SB unit is a Φ2.2 × 5.3 m cylinder; a 100 m³/d configuration is two Φ2.2 × 11.5 m cylinders. Containerised units occupy a standard shipping container footprint on a level slab.

Can capacity be phased to match the delivery programme?

Yes, and that is usually the cheaper route. Containerised units run 50 to 600 m³/d each and combine up to 10,000 m³/d, so you install what phase one needs and add modules in parallel as later phases complete. The MABR range is designed specifically for linear expansion through parallel container units.

Will residents notice it?

Buried units operate in a sealed underground environment that effectively isolates noise and odour, which is what makes them viable directly beneath courtyards and landscaping. The constant underground temperature also stabilises the biology, so treatment performance holds up better through seasonal swings.

Can the treated water be reused within the development?

Yes. Containerised MBR units produce effluent at BOD₅ 10 mg/L, ammonia-nitrogen 5 mg/L and suspended solids 5 mg/L with faecal coliform below 50 CFU/100 mL, which is suitable for landscape irrigation, water features and general cleaning rather than discharge.

What if the site cannot drain by gravity?

Use the LD-BZ integrated prefabricated pumping station. It buries a complete package — pipework, pumps, control gear, screen and maintenance platform — into a single barrel from Ø1.2 to 6.5 m, handling 480 to 18,960 m³/d at flows of 20 to 790 m³/h.
