Frequently Asked Questions

Do we still need a grease trap if we install a packaged STP?

Yes, and it is worth doing properly. Fats, oils and grease from cooking and dishwashing will foul membranes and blind media if they reach the biological stage. A grease trap is available as a factory option on the containerised units so that interception happens before the treatment train rather than as an afterthought.

Will the plant cope with a load that arrives in two short bursts a day?

That is the normal pattern in catering and the systems are built for it. The AAO+MBBR and MBR processes tolerate shock loads well, and the control system automatically identifies inflow volume and switches the blower into an energy-saving mode between service periods rather than running flat out all day.

Can a resort install this without ruining the view?

Buried Johkasou units sit entirely underground — the surface above can be planted, paved or used as a walkway, and the sealed underground environment isolates both noise and odour. Containerised units are enclosed systems with minimal odour escape, and the MABR variant is quieter still because it transfers oxygen through a membrane instead of blowing air through the tank.

What happens to the sludge?

Optimised processes keep sludge production low to begin with, which reduces both disposal cost and frequency. Where volumes still matter, the containerised units can be specified with a 50% sludge reduction system or a sludge dryer as factory options.

How long does installation take?

The units are prefabricated in our factory, so site work is limited to foundations and connections. Containerised units arrive as standard shipping containers and need only water and power to be connected. Factory prefabrication typically shortens the overall project timeline by 30–50% compared with a built-in-place plant.
