Mejec Johkasou for Household Domestic Wastewater Treatment in the Middle East

By administrator on Sep-07-2026

In the Middle East, household wastewater management faces particular challenges due to the region's hot and arid climate, limited freshwater resources, and varying levels of centralized sewer infrastructure.

For this residential project, Mejec supplied 173 Johkasou wastewater treatment systems for the treatment of domestic wastewater generated by individual households. The equipment included 2 m³/day and 3 m³/day units, covering household wastewater treatment requirements of different scales.

The Mejec Johkasou systems are based on AO and AAO biological treatment processes, providing on-site treatment for household domestic wastewater.

Household Wastewater Treatment in an Arid Region

Domestic wastewater from households is continuously generated through everyday activities such as bathing, washing, kitchen use, and toilet flushing. In regions where centralized sewer networks are limited or difficult to extend, the treatment of this wastewater requires equipment that can be installed according to the actual conditions of individual residential properties.

The Middle East's hot and dry climate adds another consideration to wastewater management. With limited rainfall and freshwater resources, proper treatment of domestic sewage is important for reducing environmental impact and supporting more responsible water management.

For residential developments with dispersed households, wastewater treatment equipment needs to work effectively within different site conditions while maintaining consistent treatment performance.

Mejec Johkasou for Household Domestic Wastewater

For this project, Mejec Johkasou systems were installed to treat domestic wastewater generated by individual households.

The treatment capacity was selected according to the wastewater generation of each residential property, with different configurations used to accommodate varying household requirements. This allowed the equipment to be applied directly to the corresponding residential wastewater sources.

By treating household sewage at the property level, the Mejec Johkasou systems can be used in residential areas where centralized wastewater collection infrastructure is unavailable or where individual wastewater treatment is required.

AO and AAO Biological Treatment Process

The Mejec Johkasou systems use AO and AAO biological treatment processes.

Household domestic wastewater contains biodegradable organic matter, suspended solids, ammonia nitrogen, and other pollutants. During biological treatment, microorganisms break down organic pollutants, while the different biological zones in the AO and AAO processes support nitrogen removal.

The treatment process was selected for the characteristics of household sewage and the required effluent quality of the project, providing biological treatment performance suitable for decentralized residential wastewater applications.

Effluent Quality

After treatment by the Mejec Johkasou systems, the effluent meets the specified water quality requirements:

Parameter

Effluent Quality

COD

≤ 150 mg/L

BOD₅

≤ 15 mg/L

NH₃-N

≤ 5 mg/L

SS

≤ 15 mg/L

Total Nitrogen

≤ 5 mg/L

pH

6–9

The treated effluent demonstrates effective removal of organic pollutants, suspended solids, ammonia nitrogen, and total nitrogen from household domestic wastewater, while meeting the specified microbiological requirements.

Designed for Residential Wastewater Treatment

A household wastewater treatment system needs to account for both wastewater characteristics and the actual conditions of residential use.

In this project, Mejec Johkasou systems were applied directly to household domestic wastewater treatment, with treatment capacities selected according to individual residential requirements. The equipment provides a dedicated treatment process for sewage generated by each household rather than depending entirely on centralized wastewater collection.

This configuration is well suited to residential developments in areas where sewer infrastructure is limited, properties are distributed across a wide area, or household-level wastewater treatment is required.

Project Result

Following installation, household wastewater could be treated directly at each residential property, reducing the need for untreated sewage to remain in the surrounding environment.

The localized treatment setup helped improve wastewater management and maintain a cleaner residential environment, while reducing the potential impact of domestic sewage on nearby soil and water resources.
